Programme
Length
The minimum
time for volunteering in Cambodia for all programme participants is 8 weeks, but Interweave stresses that a minimum of 12 weeks is preferred where possible. We believe that it takes
volunteers in Cambodia at least one month to acclimatise, getting to know the people they work with and understand their own
role within a Cambodian organisation. At the same time, hosting a volunteer creates a certain amount of work for the host
organisation. A minimum commitment of 8 weeks therefore allows volunteers to make a positive contribution and the host organisation
to benefit.
Since March 2013, a 4 weeks volunteering option is offered for participants who meet the following
requirements: minimum 25 years old, specialized degree with minimum 2 years of work experience plus travel experience outside
of the own continent of residency.
All
programme participants attend a 4-day arrival orientation including important information on living and working in Cambodia and an introduction to customs and local laws, a
Siem Reap town tour, a 2-hour Khmer language class, visits to the temples of Angkor and the floating village at Chong Kneas
and a full-day training on child protection issues in Cambodia, before volunteering.

Child
Protection Policy
Interweave is
committed to child protection in Cambodia and works with a Child Protection Policy designed in cooperation with Child
Wise Australia. The policy is specially made for foreign volunteers working with children, local staff members and
other volunteers.
All volunteers sign Interweave’s Child Protection Code of Conduct on arrival and receive a full-day training on
child protection issues in Cambodia in cooperation with ConCERT (Connecting Communities, Environment and Responsible
Tourism).
In 2011 Interweave was certified as a Child Safe Organisation by Child Wise Australia.
